Word That Means 'the Stuff Floating in the Water After Shipwreck?'?
I heard someone say something the other day that is along the lines of the word "hogwash" and they said it’s the word or two words that means the stuff that is floating in the water after a shipwreck. Anyone know what I mean?
Flotsam and Jetsam, Tho they each have specific meanings, one is natural the other is wreckage as I recall.
Flotsam?
the stuff is called wreckage or some might call it debri.
i hope that this helps answer your question!!
Debris, or (ship) wreckage are words to describe what would come from a ship or plane that crashed into water. "Jetsam and flotsam" are what you are referring to, and that would be the normal things you might expect to find floating about on water, such as bits of driftwood, leaves, foam, pieces of sea plants, seaweed, etc.
The word is "flotsam"—wreckage found floating at sea. The related word "jetsam" means discarded material that washed ashore (especially material thrown overboard to lighten a ship).
