There have been dozens, if not hundreds of shipwrecks since the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald went down Nov, 10. 1975 on lake Superior.

The Great Lakes are notorious for shipwrecks as there is no vast open water to outmaneuver or outrun storms as is the case on the open ocean.

There are actually shipwrecks all the time……can’t name you the latest, but I’m sure it was a LOT more recent than the Edmund Fitz.

That’s not a silly question. The story of the Edmnd Fitzgerald is surpassed in media only by that of the Titanic. It was certainly a freak accident for the Great Lakes. To have a large shipping vessel sink with total loss of life is a very rare occurrence in this modern age.

However there are still several incidents that occur world wide throughout the year.

An excellent source of information regarding shipping loss
