Ideal Gas Law Question!!!! Initially, Oxygen Gas Is at Room Temperature (20.0 oC)….?

September 3rd, 2011 1 comment

Initially, oxygen gas is at room temperature (20.0 oC) and atmospheric pressure (1.00 atm). It is then pumped into a metal cylinder to be used for deep sea diving. The volume of the gas decreases by a factor of 25.0 while the pressure increases to 20.0 atm. What is the final temperature of the gas? Treat it as an ideal gas.

I equated:

P1V1=nRT1
__________
P2V2= nrT2

solved for T2, and got

T2= T1P2 / P1 (25)

to get a final temperature of 234.4 K. Does this seem at all correct?

Thank you very much for your time!!
