Humpback Whale Sounds

On 1/27/07 we were scuba diving the shipwrecks YO257 and the San Pedro, off Oahu (Waikiki), and throughout the dive we could hear– but not see– Humpback Whales! Or are these haunting cries the watery ghosts of those who went down with the sunken ships?

This vid is about the audio–the sounds of whales–not the actual video itself.

    NOT!
This is so real cuz i live in Hawaii.
I heard from a lot of people that this place right, in Hawaii a dump, wut evur it was.idk, but the story is there was a big dead whale that washed up on a beach. And it haunts the deepest depths of the water.

thats amazing i love the sound of whales

must have felt cool to be swimming and to hear that

maybe there are some whales far off making those sounds…sound can travel faster and further in water….since its a denser medium…..any ideas?

We never actually saw the whales while underwater, but after the dive on the boat, we could see them maybe 150 yards away–so they were fairly close but too far to see underwater.

Wonderful to hear the sound of the humpback whale. Must have been a delightful surprise to suddenly hear them calling during the dive. I remember seeing a humpback swim towards a production platform in the North Sea while I was on the lower deck. It was still dark in the early hours of the morning. It slowly dived vertically right below me without breaking the surface. The white pectoral fins were so clear against the darkness. Magical sight!

No, you don’t have to be a professional, you just have to take a scuba certification course from a recognized agency like NAUI, PADI or SSI.
