How Do You Get From Hate to Love?

FUN WORD GAME!!

The rules:
Each step has to spell an english word.
You can only change, add, or remove one letter at one time.
You can’t switch letters.

Here’s an example: ice —> fire
ice
dice
dive
five
fire

I’m trying to get from hate to love. Can you help me out? Thanks!
Oh, and I forgot: all the words have to have 2 or more letters.

    yes, lave is a word meaning to wash or bathe.

    ok i looked up these words to be sure they are words and according to dictionary.com….they are the best i could come up w/

    hate hate
    have late
    hove lote (these are the words i looked up)
    love love

    If you prefer "lite" as a common respelling of "light"
    instead of "lave" which is not used commonly.

    HATE
    HAVE
    HIVE
    LIVE
    LOVE

    This is more than 4 steps, but it
    uses common words instead.

    The first answer is probably the shortest
    since there are 3 letters that must be
    changed which all require a separate step.
