Wikipedia says it was sunk to become a dive wreck.

She was sunk as it was more expensive and hazzardous to send to a breakers yard. The boilers still contained Asbestos and it is common now to turn them into artifical reefs. The ship served the RNZN over thiry years and in some ways, this was a deserving fate better than any breakers yard. If it sounds like I had a bit of affection for this old ship, youre right. I served my apprentiship during her half life refit, and continued to maintain her for the following 18years. Great ship and a good crew.

Ask him whether he misses the cramped sanitary installations ;-) . I hope that I’ll be back on her soon to get other interesting areas on camera!

I love everything to do with the ocean but i’m too much of a pussy to actually go into deep water, only because i don’t know what’s under me. if i went into deep water and looked under me and saw a shipwreck i would probably crap myself…

lol same here I hate deep water its to freaky dont knw why probably just the thourght of not knowing whats under you or looking down and seeing nothing but blue water which turns to darkness or just knowing how small you are, I just cant go into deep water even at the local pool, my friends will go out right into the center while i chill out on the side clinging to the grates and not letting go haha.

How long after it was sunk did you dive on it? Cause that thing is fresh.
