Dream Interpretation? (The Glowing Whale)?
A few nights ago I had this wierd dream…
I was wearing a dress and a deep-sea diving helmet and I was in a dark ocean, underwater. There was no fish and no plantlife…there was just an abandoned underwater city. I swam around a skyscraper and through different parts of the city… and then, as I tried to come to the surface of the water, a huge glowing whale appeared. It was glowing pink and blue, but when it opened its mouth a white light came over me. I could see my sillhouete against the light just before I got swallowed by this ‘glowing whale’, and then I woke up. What could this mean?
Well to me it sounds like God speaking to you I know it might seem weird in a dream like that but it happens too. Anyways in your dream you say that when you dived in there was no life and everything was gone. That means the world is going to end soon and the whale that opened his mouth and had a white light and the light over you could mean that God is protecting you.Jesus is the light the alpha and the omega the begining and the end no one comes before him except for our Father in Heaven .Have you accepted God as your savior God Bless You and remember he loves you
I don’t see this dreamin the context of the "end of the world, Jesus is comforting you" schema. In my experience, dreams are more our unconscious trying to work out problems the conscious mind is too cluttered to handle. Now:
It is tempting to see the dress and diving helmet as positive symbols (protective), but when juxtaposed against the "dark ocean," absence of life, and "abandoned" city, and the fact that you are underwater, those elements seem less indicative of protection as they seem to be symbolic of separation, distance, and perhaps fear.
Darkness connotes unknowability and uncertainty, as much as it symbolizes the pre-embryonic void from which all things emerge once fertilization occurs. Not to be trite, the phallic symbol of the skyscraper stands out so obviously as representative of the male attribute.
Let us now summrize: you are separated from the unfertile (lifeless) waters and exploring a lifeless place where life either once was or should be, when you come upon a phallus.
Trying to come to the surface can be read as attempting to escape from the male element back into the light you are familiar with. The place where you are is wet (life giving) and dark (pre-embryonic void) – yet lifeless. There is a male element there. The place you try to escape to is lit, but dry (unable to provide both fertility and gestation) but the light provides a false security.
Before you can escape into the false reality, a third option appears. This option is offered to you by an illuminated whale. We will skip over the obvious male and female nursury colors of pink and blue. Whales are the aequeous analogues for the symbols of wisdom, timelessness, stability, remembrace, and motherhood, family, than elephants are to the terrestrial. Mouths are often symbolic of the female essense (vagina/womb) in that what is gestated inside (words, speech, etc) must come into the world through the mouth or its surrogates writing and music.
Finally, you describe yourself sillhouetted "against the light,,, before being swallowed by the glowing whale." You saw yourself reflected with the light – this is a postive thing, while at the same time showing that you are apart from your illuminated self.
The most obvious interpretation is that you are experiencing some quandry with respect to marriage/reproduction. You have uncertainty and or obstacles in these areas. But also likely, is that your creative urges are somhow being frustrated , either by external forces or by your own insecurities.
I believe that what the whale symbolizes is what you really want for yourself. Look deep into the issues which currently exist in the forefront of your life – and choose the paths you feel are most indicative of that light.
here is what i think the dream means…
the dress represents preperation. you must prepare for something or for someone. the helmet represents saftey. you will be divinly guided and protected as long as you follow instructions. because you will face such terrible things. the dark ocean covering the city is a sign of judgment upon the earth. you are being warned of impending doom. horrible things will come to pass. understand.
now in the dream you were alone. unaware of the horrid things that were watching you in the the darkness of the ocean. but you came to the surface and behold, the whale appeared. and that whale was watching you. waiting for you. and the whale is a POWERFUL BEING. it swollowed you. that means it was taking you in. you are called to its kingdom. because you belong to it and you must go to were you belong. perhaps at this time you are not listening to the warings and directions given to you. …i guess these are the end times. …im sorry i dont know why you saw your own sillhouete. it means something im certain of that. but perhaps its something only you can decipher. a messge for you from God.
